For about two long years, a courageous 71 year old domestic worker, Vilma Serralta, has been fighting her legal battle for just wages from her former employers Sakahawat and Roomy Khan. She worked at the beck and call of the Khans for over four years, keeping their 9000 square foot mansion in Atherton sparkling clean and caring for their young daughter. She often worked more than 14 hours a day without all her legally required breaks and hung tight to her dignity as her employers called her stupid and yelled at her if she missed a spot. After Mr. Khan fired Vilma for failing to take out the trash containing only a few chicken bones, Vilma found her way to La Raza Centro Legal. She then joined forces with the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center and the Coalition of Domestic Workers to lead hundreds of domestic workers on a march through upscale Atherton announcing the filing her legal case in Federal Court on March 13, 2008. After years of discovery, depositions, and on the eve of trial, Vilma reached a settlement in her case. While the amount is confidential - lets just say that Vilma could not be happier!!!

QUE VIVA VILMA SERRALTA!!!
