Housing Discrimination: Recent Cases

  • An Urban County resident of Contra Costa County alleged their landlord of child discrimination.  The allegation was appropriately documented and a complaint was filed with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. 
  • This past fiscal year, a tenant who was inappropriately served was assisted with their response to an unlawful detainer (eviction) was successful in having the complaint dismissed due to a technicality.
  • An extremely low-income tenant who is a single mother of two children and caretaker of a legally blind member of her household sought the assistance of La Raza Centro Legal about habitability issues and overpayment of utilities.  After assisting the tenant by documenting the habitability issues and defending an eviction, the tenant's repairs were addressed, overpayments were credited and the eviction was dismissed.
